Episode 8: Fear of Clowns Spectacular [75 mins]

21 05 2008

Written by Kevin Kangas

June 11, 2006

  • The hosts: Freddy, Matt, Andy, Ryan, Kelly, Chiseck

News

  • Feast poster and dvd release date
  • Freddy says from now on they’re gonna call themselves “Nighters”
  • They still can’t figure out what clown movie they saw as child though an emailer incorrectly thinks it’s “Killer Clowns From Outer Space”.
  • Wicker man BS.
  • A new Zodiac movie NOT the Fincher one.
  • Hitcher remake signs new leading guy.
  • Freddy thinks Neil Patrick Harris would make a great Hitcher (Freddy is apparently high).
  • Snakes on a Train.
  • They go off into serial killer tangent. “Real life serial killers one one of my least favorite things,” says Freddy. They hope Rick Ganz is in September’s serial killer calendar.
  • They bust the fourth wall to tell us that someone needs a drink of water.

Voice mail

Jeff from Jersey says he likes the podcast(he thinks he’s first person to ever call the podcast, but apparently someone named Sheila beat him–trivia alert, ie Name the first person to ever call the NOTLP voicemail). Mentions Monster Squad.

Straight to Video Russian Roulette

Russian Roulette, revamped they say. Quick quiz to find who’s exempt from next week’s. Chiseck is exempt from this week’s drawing. Someone says this is gonna be worst episode they’ve ever done(and he’s right because they don’t recognize the genius of the film they’re about to critique). First question is stupid, second question is Name the hotel in the movie Shining(Overlook) and Hotel Room Number(real room 217/answer 237) but nobody gets room number. Third question is name a quote and Freddy gets Pet Sematary. Then then ask REALLY easy bonus question about Night of the Creeps but nobody gets it because they’ve apparently been struck partially retarded by the brilliance of the clown movie they recently saw and are about to review.

God Bless Satellite

Watched The Immortalizer. About people who put old people’s brains in young people’s bodies. Then Scarecrow Slayer. Then Freddy says they don’t only watch bad movies, and points out 3 Extremes. (which they liked)

40:20 is when their epic coverage of the greatest movie of all time begins. This is not the Vault, this is a Fear of Clowns segment. Freddy picked it up because Matt is coulrophobic. They say it’s a punishment. Andy says they now have a fear of indy directors.

Matt(I think) says it’s the worst movie they’ve had to watch for the show. “Just awful.” He’s clearly a douche, and doesn’t point out that part of the reason he hated the movie was that he was being cornholed by men with elephantine penises at the time of the viewing. You gotta read between the lines like I did.

He then has a hard time synopsizing the film, so Freddy takes over and says it makes sense–hence, he’s the only one with part of a brain but then he almost loses it by saying something bad about the brilliant director. They then read the back of the dvd box(never a good idea, since those are all written by talentless ad-men).

A brief moment of clarity as one of the guys says, “If you didn’t like this movie then you just didn’t get it” but the joke’s on him because he’s being facetious. This is irony at its finest.

Matt/Ryan begin to “bullet hole” this. I think this is code-name for fingering each others’ assholes.

They say the film “broke them”, which is the greatest compliment I’ve ever received.

Then they make fun of the name “Lynn Blodgett”. I should have gone with my first choice: “Busty McVadge”. I make a mental note for the future.

Ryan doesn’t know why the clown is stalking the woman, but Freddy and Andy correctly point out why, which has to make Ryan feel small and feeble-minded.

Then Freddy says the online script is “180 pages”. It’s actually 120 pages.

Matt read the script. He tries to be witty but fails miserably here. Not his finest moment. His summary is adequate, so at least it’s better than his sex life. They then point out the script makes sense but is “dumber” than the movie. Yes, he
really said dumber.

Then they say they don’t blame the actors, they blame the director. They talk about me being arrogant and me wanting the movie to be over 3 hours. They are half right, but don’t they know who I am? I can crush their careers with a phone
call!

Here’s one of my favorite moments. Freddy says that when he makes a song and it’s no good, he throws it away. His inference here is that jamming out a four minute song is comparable to spending 2 years and tens of thousands of dollars on a film. But I also guarantee that if Freddy made a song that sucked but Sony called him up and offered him good cash to release it on the radio stations–well, he wouldn’t be turning it down. Check. Mate.

Back to imdb comment boards–they also got in an argument with someone from my cast on there. Then they paraphrase what I said by saying that I said FOC was too deep for them. They comment on my FOC hat and FOC T-Shirt, and say that’s where the budget went. FYI–my wife bought those for me. Now she hates you too. Congratulations.

Freddy says it’s tragic that I have a wife and kids(really, only 1 that I know of). For once, we agree.

Someone points out that I don’t see the flaws in FOC–and this is why I’m sure these guys are all either retarded or blinded by their hate of my on-screen persona. The jury’s still out on which one it is.

Chiseck says he will give me one more chance. He’s gonna go out and find “Hunting Humans”.

Then Ryan calls me out: “I hope you hear this. You’re a prick. You’re an arrogant asshole. smurfin.” Chiseck calls me a douche nozzle.

Matt hates that the clown gives up at the end. Then they mention the gooch shot.

Then they make fun of how fat and unattractive one of the actresses is. Glass houses, anybody?

Then they go on to the cop beheading scene–and okay, this is where you just gotta wonder about the IQ of Matt/Ryan. He claims that the cop’s head flies across the street and hits the windshield of the car the hitman is in. THIS IN NO WAY HAPPENS. The head flies off and hits the gray car in the driveway that you can clearly see in most of the scene, NOT the white truck that the hitman is driving. But again, it’s probably hard to absorb what’s happening on a TV screen when a man has 12 inches buried in your hershey highway.

I’m totally busted on the fake-looking corpse–it needed to move or something, but we had enough problems that day to choke a horse.

They move on to the gooch shot. Funny aside: Jacky still to this day says she was not wearing underwear during that shot because she was unaware we were shooting from there. However, she was definitely wearing underwear.

Freddy thinks we had a set decorator. Hahahahaha.

Hey, Chiseck called me a dick and then claims he LOOKED UP Leiber’s Congenital Amaurosis and found out it doesn’t do exactly what I said it did. Now, if you have to look something up online to find out it’s incorrect, is that really something you can fault me for? (besides, Lieber’s DOES cause discoloration of the eyes, just not solid black)

They make fun of the way Shivers talks. This is a bad thing to do. He would have killed you anyway, but now he’s got REASON to. And yes, I told him to talk that way. Blame me, but realize you just don’t get the GENIUS, man.

Now Matt or Ryan wants me to call the show–”You arrogant prick” he says.

Freddy loses his bet when he says he believes I will think their podcast sucks.

Everyone busts out laughing for no discernable–turns out the cat fell from a great height and knocked off someone’s headphones.

They say Lionsgate puts out crap and Matt(?) says he won’t check out anymore movies from them because he doesn’t want them to fund any more crap. He doesn’t realize that they don’t fund us no-budget guys, they just buy the stuff they think they can sell.

They mention FOC2–”the clown escapes crazy jail”. Someone mentions the interview I did for Horror Asylum. They want to do a phone interview with them.

They want to know who the 30 people who voted FOC a 10 were.

Show ends with “Send In The Clowns”.

Here ends my completely unbiased and humble coverage of Episode 8. Go see if Ryan Nicholson will do his critique/summary of the Raw Feed show, huh? :)

Editor’s note from T Van: I would like to personally thank Kevin for taking the time to sit down and write this for the episode guide. How many other directors face their critics in such a hilarious manner?

Episode 47: Dead Silence [82:57]

18 03 2007

Written by Alyssa

March 18, 2007

  • The hosts: Freddy, Amy, Matt, Andy and special guest Dave

News

Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Amy reviews Shockorama’s masterpiece Skin Crawl. Rashoman-style (very loosely) telling of the story of a witch who is reincarnated and the story of her murder is revealed from multiple points of view.

Amy thought it was boring and might be improved with judicious editing. She would not recommend it.

The Question: In the film The Descent, what level does Juno say the cave system they’ll be spelunking through?

Answer: Andy wins with answer Level 2. Matt loses and must watch Vampires: Out For Blood.

Main Topic

Buffy the comic (aka Buffy Season 8). Andy liked it. Amy liked it. Freddy is optimistic. Matt thought it was too much like season four (the initiative season). One issue in, most of the crew is interested to see where the story goes. However, Andy doesn’t think the art is very good.

Dead Silence showed a lot of promise, but then really got lame very quickly. It was unintentionally funny. Dave laughed a lot. Ventriloquist lady takes out a heckler, the town takes care of the killer ventriloquist lady and then she returns to exact her revenge. A fairly predictable story. Donny Wahlberg is weird and funny. Again, unintentionally. Matt points out numerous odd plot points and the ridiculous ‘twists.’ Highly skippable.

David from Chicago emails a pitch from Stephen Hawking. Good Will Hunting 2: Evil Will Hunting. Sexy times follow as Stephen Hawking must defeat an Evil Will Hunting to save some hotties.

Mark from Tennessee announces that he’s also a podcaster at latelateshow.net. He’s got a short story.

Des from Canada calls to wish Matt a happy birthday and plays some scary audio. Disturbing. He also updates us on the cat, dog and old lady next door. Please do not mess with Des’s lawn.

Gina writes to say that she agrees with Kelley about Laurel K. Hamilton. Hamilton simply cannot write.

Kangas thought that Kelley was way too hard on Hamilton.

Shaggy drunk dials the show for St. Paddys. He listened to the podcast with people at work. He also doesn’t support the Porner but does like some horror on TV like Supernatural.

Patrick has suggestions for the Porner. Andy declares Patrick is a favourite listener.

Orion16 leaves a message asking about a Dawn of the Dead compare/contrast and Monster Man 2, and a special scary clown episode.

Phleghm calls the show “Night of the Living Crab Cake.” He talks about his trip to the Caribbean and sings a song called “Buffalo Gargoyle.”

Everyone drank too much to mark Matt’s birthday and St. Paddy’s day. Matt had a ‘pretty awesome’ birthday.

The cat attacked special guest Dave.

Amy disses Tennessee.

Andy is especially gassy. He also does a Showgirls impression. He also hates Tyra Banks.

Show goes out on “Buffalo Soldier” by Bob Marley.

  • Kelley is going to SXSW with Pike!

Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Kelley watched Vampires the Turning.

Kelley: There was no way this movie could be good.

Ugly Americans (”Casper Van Dien guy” and “half-cute girl”) vacationing abroad in Thailand use very poor judgment, encounter questionable martial arts, and vampires. Hilarious stupidity, kung fu, neck biting, red gels ensue. It was horrible. The movie itself is random crap. Kelley does not recommend this film. ?There is not a single reason to watch this. Kelley seems to be especially disgusted and offended by this film, as if it was created as a personal affront to him.

Quiz Question: Matt asks: In the movie The Goonies, what was the name of the explorer hot on the trail of the treasure?

Freddy answers Chester Copperpot.

Amy loses and has to watch Skin Crawl.

Main Topic

Matt saw 300 and says it is really good. Maybe not a date movie, but still good.

Freddy watched Horror Business, a documentary that profiles the makers of indie horror films. They have
to sacrifice for their craft. The documentarian visited the sets of several very small, grade-z films but also managed to visit the set of Zombie Honeymoon, a movie Freddy really liked.

Freddy also recommends American Movie which is a great documentary following a guy in Wisconsin trying to make a movie called Coven.

Freddy also waxes poetic about going to the Drive-In.

A lively discussion of Friday the 13th the Series erupts.

An enthusiastic discussion about 80s cartoons ensues including Pac-Man, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Kissyfur, and Rubik, The Amazing Cube. And then things quickly degenerate.

Kelley and Amy talk books. Mostly, Kelley rants about bad vampire books like stuff written Laurel K. Hamilton and Mercedes Lackey. He’s on a roll.

Andy’s Porner

The Hole the horror/porn take on The Ring. If you watch the cursed video, you get a phone call that says In seven days you’ll be gay. Sexy times ensue.

Callers/Emails to the show

Amy emails to share that she and her friend scrapbook on Saturdays while listening to NOTLP.

Phleghm calls to complain about the length of recent podcasts, which he compares to the length of the mini-series Roots.

Mindy writes to ask if anyone from the crew saw Hannibal Rising? No one saw it in theaters. They’ll consider seeing it on DVD.

Shaggy called to share his agreement on Zodiac, clarify some stuff about Carnage, and offer praise.

Desmond writes about his “hometown” killer, Robert Pickton, a guy on trial for murdering lots and lots of people. He also complains about an old lady and her problem pet.

Brother D calls to blame his illness on NOTLP and apologizes for not liking Buffy. He appreciated the review of Zodiac.

Zodiac Killer calls to breathe, giggle, and threaten someone’s porn collection.

Other notes of interest

  • Matt hates kids.
  • Fred hates old women who fish for compliments.
  • Amy puked in her car after a night of drinking. Crave Zone One will never be the same.
  • Matt says binge drinking is dangerous.
  • Freddy explains Skyline chili to non-residents.

Show goes out on “Peace of Mind” by Boston.

Episode 45: Zodiac [The Longest Movie Ever] [104:53]

News:

  • Kelley’s back!! YAY!!!
  • Monkey’s drummer Mickey Dolenz will have a cameo in Rob Zombie’s Halloween.
  • Trailer for Disturbia starring Shia LaBeouf and Carrie-Anne Moss is available.
  • Kelley does not like teenagers. Except for those who are faithful NOTLP listeners.
  • Trailer is available for Dead Silence which was made by the same guys who made Saw.
  • Matt doesn’t like Saw. Matt hates everything.
  • Upcoming movies include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and the 4th installment of Indiana Jones.
  • I Sell the Dead is in production.
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been picked up by Fox.
  • The Host will have a limited release on March 9th.
  • Night of the Comet and Chainsaw Sally will be released on DVD this week.
  • Amy and Freddy’s 12 year anniversary was yesterday!!!

Book Corner

Kelley reviews The Mammoth Book of this Year’s Best Horror: 2004. He gives the book a recommend and definitely recommends the story: The King: In Yellow. Stephen King’s The Mist was also discussed and how it inspired the video game Half-Life.

Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Amy was forced to watch Are You Scared? which is a blatant rip-off of the Saw movies. It is about a bunch of teenagers who wake up in a warehouse and have to face their greatest fears. Best quote in the movie: “Drop your box!!” Amy recommends the movie but with reservations.

Question: Andy won last week and gets to ask this week’s question. How many killings is the Zodiac Killer credited with?

Answer: Matt wins with the answer of 5.

Kelley lost and has to watch Vampire: The Turning?

Main Topic: Zodiac

The crew (except for Kelley) went to see the Zodiac. Everyone agrees that this is a long ass movie, but then the dissension begins. Amy enjoyed the movie, while Freddy and Matt disliked it. Freddy and Matt do agree that the movie was great for the first 45 minutes or so. The movie was just way too long and the guys stopped caring after the initial 45 minutes. Everyone agreed that the scenes with the Zodiac Killer were great. The crew recommends renting Zodiac, but don’t go to the movies to see it. Your ass will fall asleep.

This review sets off a discussion about serial killer movies and movies with serial killers in them. A movie is being made about Ed Gein and will be starring Kane Hodder. This is an example of really bad casting.

Callers/Emailers to the Show

  • Patrick the Red Menace emails the show about the best lines in the remake of the Wicker Man as done by Nicolas Cage. He would also like to shit on Ellen Burstyn.
  • Da Movie Critic emails the show to apologize to Phlegm. It’s not that he doesn’t like Phlegm. He thinks that Phlegm might get too common. He also defends the Wishmaster movies.

  • Louis Fowler calls the show and sings 3 songs that are all about the NOTLP crew.
  • Des calls in to complement the crew on the Wicker Man show. Des’s Note to Self: Never listen to NOTLP’s imitations of Nicolas Cage while shaving. Des is now beardless.

  • This is not the 30 Rock Podcast.

  • According to Andy, Kate Beckinsale has a bad boob job. Check out badboobjobs.com to see more.
  • Dr. Dre is starting a film company and will be making horror movies.

Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Freddy was supposed to watch Bit Parts, but he couldn’t find it. He picked up Dead Mary at the video store instead. Movie starts out promising. Cast of people in their mid 20’s are camping. They are sitting around a campfire, drinking some beer, and talking about sleep paralysis (which scares the shit out of Freddy). The discussion turns to Dead Mary aka Bloody Mary. Next thing you know, one of the cast turns up dead, then sits up and starts nagging everyone. Movie is taking a very bad turn. Movie had great promise, but then ended up not being believable.

Question: Chiseck won last week, but he isn’t here this week. Matt asked this week’s question. Matt has a Bottom 5 Movies of All Time list. Name two movies.

Answer: Batteries Not Included and The Pledge.

Amy lost and has to watch Are You Scared?

Main Topic

Compare/Contrast the original versus the remake of the Wicker Man.

The Wicker Man (1973) was a very original film. Even Matt liked it. Movie has some nudity (character Willow dances around while naked). Matt missed some of this cause he was busy making himself a M&M character online. This is a very trippy movie, but the crew recommends it. The movie ends with one of the most horrifying conclusions in a movie.

Christopher Lee in Drag = Cher.

The remake was horrible. Nicolas Cage can’t act his way out of a wet paper bag. This movie is a hunk of shit. This movie focuses on anti-women sentiment, and Nicolas Cage punches a lot of women.

Callers/Emailers to the Show

  • *Cough* *Hack* *Cough* Louis calls in to say that he is dying. The previous episode made him feel better since everyone was sick on the show. *Cough*
  • Louis calls back again to let everyone know that he’s ok. He bitches about the cast’s voicemail message.
  • The Movie Critic calls in to recommend the Wishmaster Series for review by the team. He’s also created a Night of the Living Podcast YouTube group. He also thinks that Phleghm is getting a little old.
  • Shaggy phones in to say that he was surprised that Die Blacula Die did not make it into the last episodes reviews for Black History Month. He states that all porn sucks and Phleghm should have his own segment.
  • Appreciative email from listener Mindy. She recommends House 4 for review.
  • Dave from the UK emails and recommends Popcorn.
  • Patrick emailed the show to say that he watched Halloween Night and that he disliked the movie, intensely.
  • Corey emails in to express his desire to make the website easier to navigate. Maybe even include a STVRR poll.
  • Listener with Brooklyn accent calls from Tokyo, Japan to say who much he loves the show and zombie movies. Thank you, Mr. Soprano.

Notes of Interest

  • Randomly, this show turns into the 30 Rock Show, the Grey’s Anatomy Podcast, and the Food Network Podcast.
  • Quote of the Day: “High Five for Cocklovers!” Thank you, Andy. Game over.
  • Best Sound byte: “Methinks you be a bit stingy with your candy, Miss!” Garfield’s Halloween Special.
  • Matt, Ryan, and Andy watched Daredevil together on Valentine’s Day. How Sweet.
  • Cast discusses best ways to convince girls to let guys grope their boobs. Andy presents “Tune in Tokyo.”
  • Freddy recommends two porns: Bobbysocks and Flashpoint. He even supplies the listeners with plot outlines.
  • Matt saw Ghost Rider. Bad movie.

Show goes out to Willow’s Song from the movie The Wicker Man.

Episode 43: Black History Month [79:47]

News

  • Stephen King and JJ Abrams are talking about bringing The Dark Tower series to the big screen.
  • The Monster Squad DVD is being released by Lionsgate.
  • Kevin Smith is directing the pilot for “The Reaping”.
  • Lionsgate has acquired the movie rates to the unreleased video game Kane and Lynch.

Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Amy lost last week and had to watch Halloween Night. Up until the last 5 minutes of the movie, she was thinking about giving the movie a cautious recommend. The last 5 minutes totally fucked the movie. This was a basic slasher movie that became totally ridiculous.

Question: What is the name of the prince that Dracula turns into Blacula?

Answer: Mamuwalde

Freddy lost and has to watch Bit Parts.

Main Topic

The crew reviewed two movies for the show: Blacula and Tales from the Hood. There were many discussions about blaxploitation and whether these movies fit the definition of a classic blaxploitation film.

Blacula (1972) was directed by William Crane. It starts off with African Prince Mamuwalde and his wife Luva traveling to Transylvania to ask Dracula to stop the slave trade. It turns out that Dracula is actually a racist pig. He turns Mamuwalde into a vampire, kills Luva, and seals Mamuwalde in a coffin. Centuries later, the coffin is found by two antique collectors who take the coffin to Los Angeles. They open the coffin, and Blacula kills them. Blacula sees a girl (Tina) who looks just like his long lost love Luva and falls for her. Blacula changes more people into vampires up until the end where he walks out into the sun for a classy death scene.

The crew had a field day with the makeup effects of the vampires. Film followed the typical 70’s effects for vampires/zombies.

The actress who played Tina has the best legs ever. Without a doubt.

All of the women in the movie were gorgeous, but all of the guys were fugly. Beat with the ugly stick UGLY.

Crew was divided on whether they liked the movie or if they just really didn’t care.

Tales from the Hood (1995) was directed by Rusty Cundieff and produced by Spike Lee. It is a collection of short stories like Tales from the Crypt but in an urban setting. The movie begins with 3 drug dealers trying to find a stash of drugs (The Shit) in a mortuary. The funeral director (played by Clarence Williams) escorts them through the mortuary, regaling them with 4 tales of horror. These stories all share a common theme of unity in the community and morality.

  • Story 1: Activist is killed by the police. One cop is haunted by the ghost of the dead man.
  • Story 2: David Alan Grier is a monster. David Alan Grier is not scary.
  • Story 3: Little Dolls stalking David Duke-like white supremacist politician.
  • Story 4: Lifetime criminal agrees to behavioral rehabilitation.

Callers/Emailers to the Show

  • “Burp all you want, fuckers” voicemail.
  • Patrick the Red Menace updates the crew with his Buffy cast sightings.
  • Brother D calls to give his overall opinion of Buffy.
  • Phleghm calls in to berate the crew and punish them for the Rambo episode. Freddy is now to be called “Captain Crabtastic”.

Notes of Interest

  • Ryan is taking a hiatus from the show to work on another podcast. Traitor.
  • An interview with Kelli Maroney has been posted.
  • Life Lesson: Do not buy furniture from Amy’s store on President’s Day. It really pisses her off.
  • Kevin Smith is a press whore.
  • Myspace Friendship = Real Friendship
  • Check out Blackhorrormovies.com
  • Snoop Dog is also a press whore.
  • Chiseck either needs Gas-Ex or a cork.
  • Andy will be reviewing gay porn that has a horror twist.

Show goes out to Blacula by The Crystalites.

Episode 42: Rambo [102:25]

12 02 2007

Written by PJ

February 12, 2007

The hosts: Amy, Freddy, Kelley, and Matt

News

  • Julian McMahon will be Van Helsing in the Van Helsing remake. Straight up, this is an unnecessary remake. Van Helsing is on Kelley’s Top 10 Worst Pieces of Crap he’s ever seen list.
  • A CBS pilot for a show called Demons will air on TV this fall. Harold Perrineau (Oz, The Matrix) will star in the show as a priest.
  • Perrineau will also be staring in 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 Days Later. Danny Boyle will not be directing this movie, nor will Cillian Murphy be starring in it.
  • Rambo 4: Pearl of the Cobra is in preproduction. Rambo will be exploring the wonders of tantric sex. Not really. Plot synopsis: Missionaries hire Rambo to protect them from pirates during a humanitarian expedition to Burma…..WTF????
  • Amy will be bringing back Amy’s Book Corner.
  • The rights to the film adaptation of the book Devil in the White City by Erik Larson have been acquired by Paramount. This book is based on serial killer HH Holmes and Daniel H. Burnham, the architect of the 1893 Chicago World Fair. Amy recommends the book.
  • Reviews for Hannibal Rising are looking pretty shady.
  • According to Matt, Smoking Aces was not a good film.

Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Amy did not have a chance to review Halloween Night. Freddy found a substitution at the house. Minotaur is a made by SciFi movie that was distributed by Lionsgate. Eight teens are taken from villages and sent into the Labyrinth as sacrifices to the Minotaur. Tony Todd is the ruler of the Labyrinth. This is a mediocre, lackluster movie, but at least there was some nudity.

Q: In the film In the Mouth of Madness, Sutter Caine wrote a book that made everyone go crazy. What was it?

A: In the Mouth of Madness. Freddy won. Amy volunteers to watch the movie she missed from last week (Halloween Night).

The Pitch

DZ presents Tardes del Pecho: Night of the Chest II.

Main Topic

Freddy leads an active discussion about Rambo: First Blood and compares Rambo to Frankenstein. Rambo is seen as an antihero in the first movie. This movie stars Sylvester Stallone, Brian Dennehy, and David Caruso, who actually didn’t suck in this movie (this is the exception to the rule).

Somehow, a reference to Brokeback Mountain is brought up.

In Rambo II, Rambo is a heroic character who is sent to Vietnam to look for POW’s. In the end, the government pisses Rambo off so he destroys their lab. According to Amy, Rambo was crazy oily in this movie.

Matt calls Freddy a princess. As if Matt has any room to call ANYONE a princess.

Rambo III is a “nonsense interpretation of American Might” (thank you Freddy). Rambo is living with monks until the Colonel is kidnapped. Rambo must go to the rescue. Film takes place during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan.

Discussion about other Stallone movies ensues (Demolition Man – gag).

Callers/Emailers to the Show

Nate emails about Chainsaw Sally.

Brian emails crew to complain about remakes.

Brother D calls to express his total contempt and disgust for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. “Josh Whedon could not write his way out of a paper bag.” This incites defense for Buffy and Josh Whedon and discussions about Howard the Duck and Alien Resurrection.

Phleghm calls to talk about his visit to Disney World and how everyone thought he was an animatronic.

Other Notes of Interest

  • Freddy has a cold and is dying. Amy needs to understand one thing: Guys don’t get colds. They get the plague.
  • Being sick + Pizza Hut’s Greasy Pizza = Freddy shitting his pants. Eww.
  • The gang will be on Pickled Embryo.
  • Some forums complain that the show does not address classic horror movies. Whatever. This is the home of crappy horror movies, not the classics. Get a clue.
  • Kelley enjoys using rectal thermometers.
  • Freddy forgives Germans for their crematoriums. Let bygones be bygones. Let the German people bask in their love for David Hasselhoff.
  • Matt hates the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
  • The White Death is coming. It’s snow.

    Straight To Video Russian Roulette

Amy was supposed to watch The Dark Room, but she couldn’t find it at the local Blockbuster. Freddy substituted with Hellbent, the first gay horror movie that Amy and Freddy have watched.

Amy and Freddy: This is a really good slasher flick.

Four gay roommates are stalked by a guy/supernatural entity wearing devil horns and carrying a sickle. Romantic interest forms between main characters, while other roommates are the “if you sin, you die” cast. Nice characterization and character development, but this is nothing more than a slasher flick. There is absolutely no motivation for the murders. Amy and Freddy disagree whether or not the killer is motivated by the cast’s sexuality. Both Amy and Freddy recommend this movie.

Andy is disappointed to find out that you don’t see lots of graphic gay sex.

Andy asked Freddy if his pecker moved during the gay sex scenes. Freddy said “A little”.

Question for everyone: Is Freddy gay?

Quiz Question: Who was the longtime creative companion to John Carpenter?

No one knows the answer. It’s Debra Hill. Everyone in the cast, including Amy, is sexist now.

2nd Question: This actor appeared in two films reviewed on the show: The Fog and Night of the Creeps.

    Matt answers Tom Atkins.

Amy loses and has to watch Halloween Night.

    Main Topic

This is the Buffy Episode!! Freddy is quoted as saying: “Seven seasons of pure gold” The gang discusses the cast, background, guest appearances, and their favorite episodes.

    • Matt – “The Wish”
    • Chiseck – “Hush” and “Superstar”
    • Kelley – “Restless”
    • Freddy – “Conversations with Dead People”
    • Andy – “Selfless”
    • Amy – “Zeppo”

Discussion of favorites leads directly into a “Where are they now?” for the Buffy cast. This leads into the same discussion about the cast of “Angel”.

Xander did have a special talent. He scored with every secondary female character, demon, or monster on the show.

Chiseck pitches a story idea to Joss Whedon: Six guys and one girl who do a podcast in their spare time, but fight the supernatural by night.

Matt tries to convince the listening audience (especially if anyone who knows him happens to be listening) that he has had girlfriends and is being forced to talk about Buffy. Desperate much, Matt?

Andy gives the gang a Buffy quiz. The gang rules with Buffy trivia.

According to Andy, Joss Whedon needs to see a dentist. Andy is just a dick when it comes to Joss.

    Also, girls should avoid Matt.

    Other Notes of Interest:

    • DDR is great for fat kids, but not as great as “hamburger on a string.”
    • Amy’s nickname for Mel Gibson is “Sugar tits”.
    • Brooke Hogan is the new Chyna.
    • Girls really, really should avoid Matt.

Show goes out to song from Pike. Kelley wrote the song about Buffy and is singing it.

Episode 40: Nightmare Elm Street [100:36]

    • The hosts: Matt, Freddy, Andy, Amy, and Kelley with Bubba in the background
    • “What the hell are dreams anyway?”
    • “Incredible body hocus-pocus. The truth is we still don’t know what they are… or where they come from.”

    News

    • Amy is hung-over from her birthday celebration.
    • Chiseck is the Wizard of Dance Dance Revolution. If by Wizard, you mean an autistic eight-year-old boy.
    • Kelley is in lust with Katie Couric but Freddy thinks she’s all leathery.
    • Creepshow 3, a straight to video release, will come out on May 15th.
    • The role of Laurie Strode in the Halloween remake has been given to Scout Taylor-Compton.
    • Teeth, a movie about Vagina Dentata or toothed vagina, debuted at Sundance. Hopefully the filmmakers haven’t bitten off more than they can chew with this subject.

    Straight to Video Russian Roulette

Andy watched The Covenant: Brotherhood of Evil. Edward Furlong (fat and meth-faced) is blinded by some chemical. Michael Madsen gives him a devil headed cane that gives Edward Furlong his sight, a need for rough sex and of course killing people.

A zowo for Andy for saying they won’t get complaint letters for the blind since they can’t see to type. Then a digression for Friday the 13th: The Series. Andy does not recommend this movie at all. Then another digression about Dustin “Screech” Diamond and his sex tape with the Dirty Sanchez.

Q – In Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, what year and date were it released? A – Friday the 13th, 1991. Freddy is exempt.

Amy takes the bullet for Andy and will watch The Darkroom.

    Listener Feedback

Jonathan sends an email that he was wrong about Lee Meriwether being the other Marilyn on The Munsters. So Kelley is now free to call him a dumbass.

Dez sent an email but it wasn’t read on the last show, he sent another email where he gets pissy about it. Guess being gay for Matt has had an effect.

    The Pitch

Dez submits The Ninth Life. Based on a true story. A character based on Dez is snubbed by the crew of NOTLP. So he kills them all with a dead cat.

DZ submits Zombie Party Massacre. Fake zombies meet real zombies. Real exploding zombies. Add an odd assortment of characters and watch the hilarity ensue.

    Main Topic

The crew engages in a discussion of A Nightmare on Elm Street and nightmares in general. The crew decides to tell their nightmares.

Amy’s nightmare – Superman mowing down children with a giant lawn mower.

Kelley’s nightmare – Dreams about zombies a lot. Big surprise. But one dream was where Kelley lost his top jaw in a date’s bathroom and made a big mess.

Matt’s nightmare – As a leader of commandos hunting chest bursters, he’s too busy flirting with a girl so he shoots Patton Oswald.

Freddy’s nightmare – Freddy has a lot of nightmares. He also has night terrors, sleepwalking, and night paralysis. One of his worst dreams is where he has an ugly hag on his chest. He learns from the Hometown Tales podcast that this is a common phenomenon.

He also has punched Amy in his sleep. I’m sure she deserved it. Then there is the infamous dream where Freddy pops Chiseck’s virgin transsexual vagina. He also stroked a friend’s foot with one finger in his sleep. The crew talks about the joys of the Circle Game and tasering each other. Can you say ‘homoerotic tendencies’?

Andy’s nightmare – Andy gets his nightmares from Freddy, especially the Night Hag.

Matt lays some psychobabble on dreams.

Kelley gives us the Freddy Krueger Contingency Plan.

Kids think Freddy is Freddy Krueger. Oh yeah, I can totally see that.

The show ended with Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare.”
