Book Corner
Kelley reviews The Mammoth Book of this Year’s Best Horror: 2004. He gives the book a recommend and definitely recommends the story: The King: In Yellow. Stephen King’s The Mist was also discussed and how it inspired the video game Half-Life.
Straight To Video Russian Roulette
Amy was forced to watch Are You Scared? which is a blatant rip-off of the Saw movies. It is about a bunch of teenagers who wake up in a warehouse and have to face their greatest fears. Best quote in the movie: “Drop your box!!” Amy recommends the movie but with reservations.
Question: Andy won last week and gets to ask this week’s question. How many killings is the Zodiac Killer credited with?
Answer: Matt wins with the answer of 5.
Kelley lost and has to watch Vampire: The Turning?
Main Topic: Zodiac
The crew (except for Kelley) went to see the Zodiac. Everyone agrees that this is a long ass movie, but then the dissension begins. Amy enjoyed the movie, while Freddy and Matt disliked it. Freddy and Matt do agree that the movie was great for the first 45 minutes or so. The movie was just way too long and the guys stopped caring after the initial 45 minutes. Everyone agreed that the scenes with the Zodiac Killer were great. The crew recommends renting Zodiac, but don’t go to the movies to see it. Your ass will fall asleep.
This review sets off a discussion about serial killer movies and movies with serial killers in them. A movie is being made about Ed Gein and will be starring Kane Hodder. This is an example of really bad casting.
Callers/Emailers to the Show
- Patrick the Red Menace emails the show about the best lines in the remake of the Wicker Man as done by Nicolas Cage. He would also like to shit on Ellen Burstyn.
- Da Movie Critic emails the show to apologize to Phlegm. It’s not that he doesn’t like Phlegm. He thinks that Phlegm might get too common. He also defends the Wishmaster movies.
- Listener Mark emailed the show about Nicolas Cage going for a part in the remake of “The Fly”. God help us all.
- Louis Fowler calls the show and sings 3 songs that are all about the NOTLP crew.
- Des calls in to complement the crew on the Wicker Man show. Des’s Note to Self: Never listen to NOTLP’s imitations of Nicolas Cage while shaving. Des is now beardless.
Notes of Interest
- Episode contains plenty of banter about Flavor Flav, Brigitte Nielson, Chyna, etc. Also, many references to 80’s and 90’s trivia.
- Quotes of the Day: “Playing hide the meat with a tiger” and “Focus on the family…with a pocket full of shells.”
- Melding ALF with The Terminator.
- Amy’s Survival Incident and the coming of the Rapture.
- Matt picks his nose with his thumb and was almost killed once while picking his nose and driving his car.
- Lots of support for Phlegm on the forums.
- Kelley apologizes to listener Kate. He did do a Vampire Contingency Plan (Episode 25).
- Punky Brewster had a breast reduction, but she is still hot.
- Listener Frankenstein sent a box of really, really strange stuff to the crew.
- Jokes about funeral homes.
Show goes out on “Psycho” by Teddy Thompson.
